ART ILLUSTRATION AND PROMOTION WORKSHOP WITH JOHN PARRA
Dates: July 8th, 15th and 22nd
Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Cost: $125 for 3 classes
Multi-award winning children’s book illustrator, John Parra, will be conducting a 3 class mini Intensive illustration and art promotion workshop.The workshop is intended to enhance art students and beginning illustrators learn techniques to advance into the professional field of illustration.
The 3 class intensive will cover the following:
- Learn and practice illustration art and painting techniques, image and content research.
- Learn about contract/billing paperwork.
- Best practices for promotional strategies.
POETRY WITH CARIDAD DE LA LUZ, LA BRUJA
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Cost: $15 for each workshop (pay on site)
This summer Caridad de la Luz will be teaching four classes at La Casa Azul Bookstore with special inside tips on poetry and song writing with a special focus on hip hop lyrical content and spoken word performance.

About Caridad de la Luz:
Caridad De La Luz is a poet/mc/singer/actress/writer/activist better known as La Bruja. She began her spoken word career at the famed Nuyorican Poets Cafe almost 20 years ago and has had a career filled with performances in film, theater, television, radio, schools, jails and community centers. She has taught writing workshops across the country to all ages, helping countless individuals express themselves artistically on the page and on the stage.
CRAFTING THE SHORT STORY – FROM EROTICA TO NOIR
Dates: July 10, 17 and 24
Cost $20 each, (Save $10 by attending 3 classes for $50)
Bronx Writers Center Director, Charlie Vázquez facilitates a special series of 3 two-hour workshops focused on the structure of the erotica and/or noir short story, focusing on point-of-view characters, intriguing and symbolic settings, internal and external tension and the style that results when these elements are combined.
Writers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Writing exercises, readings and commentary will be offered.
Charlie is the New York City coordinator for Puerto Rico’s Festival de la Palabra, as well as the author of over a dozen published short stories in the erotica, noir and suspense genres. He’s been published in the United States, Colombia and Puerto Rico and will be sharing his techniques for creating dimensional short story worlds and characters that will grab a reader’s attention. Stories that lure them deeper into your tale through the eyes of your point-of-view character—from the inciting incident to the climax (wink).
