For those of you that like your info in bite sized chunks… here it is.
For those of you that want the details… here it is.
Right now… trending topics suggest that “HEALTH” is on many minds as we usher into 2014. This is not a new phenomenon, year after year people look at the New Year ritual to press a virtual reset button and undo all the things they are not quite right in their lives. We all know that #NEWYEAR #NEWME trend is short lived for many as they will slowly revert back to what they did before December 31st, after all, we are creatures of habit.
As a Por Tu Familia organizer, I have seen the power of health education first hand at La Feria de Salud. The people we meet every year really want to live healthier lives but they do not know how. They think that it is impossible for them to make small changes in their lives that will allow them to prevent the offset of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Our job is to make those resources available to them, to teach them and support those who really want to make the change.
I recently appealed to Eva Smith and Google to allow me the privilege of becoming a Google Glass Explorer so that I can use this technology as a tool to get quality information to people with limited access to experts and educators.
For those that do not know Google Glass is a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display (OHMD) that is being developed by Google in the Project Glass research and development project, with a mission of producing a mass-market ubiquitous computer. Google Glass displays information in a smartphone-like hands-free format, that can communicate with the Internet via natural language voice commands.
The features that appeal to me for this project is the ability to do live Google Hangouts and record video from my point of view. I am looking to magnify our reach by bringing quality health info (in both English & Spanish) to the target on their PC / Mac or Mobile devices. I am using the results of our recent #portufamilia campaign as an indicator that if we employ a quality means of distribution for social content, we can reach a significant audience. I am happy to say, I was selected and received an invite to be a Google Glass Explorer.
As you can see in the reporting screenshot below, we had a 30 day conversation with over 800 influencers all over the world and sparked a user generated content campaign that would reach over 2 million people and generate 10 million impressions to promote a local event for the American Diabetes Association’s Feria De Salud. I knew then that this conversation needs more than just tweets, instagram photos and even a podcast to really get traction. This conversation needs to see what I see daily, listen to my conversations and document ways that we can all live healthier lives… it needs Google Glass.
I just think about the impact we can have today if I can host virtual shopping trips with experts like Joe Olivo, that can help us shop healthier on a tight budget. I wonder what we can do if I can share a Por Tu Familia committee member meeting with thousands of my readers / listeners via hangout and get feedback on how to enhance health programs. I wish that I can sit down with leading doctors that work with our community and have the conversation that some people are scared to have and share that with everyone willing to learn how to prevent or live a longer life under the threat of diabetes. The possibilities are endless.
Here is my ask…
I am looking for potential partners to underwrite the cost of getting Google Glass and creating quality content that can then be distributed via a branded media rich “twitter party” and Google Hangouts. There many ways to use this technology in engaging ways and in real time. We have quite a few ideas.
I have attached the #PorTuFamilia Slideshare recap so that you can see what we have already been able to do far with my platform.
If you are interested in partnering, please email me at Engage@SofritoMediaGroup.com and schedule a time to chat.
