“Únete a la Onda Latina … ¡a Weber!”

PALATINE, Ill., July 28 /HISPANIC PR WIRE-CONTEXTO LATINO/ — Grilling is a way to bring the entire family together. It’s a social event where the prize is conversation, companionship … and delicious food.

Hispanics are big on grilling, and they’re doing so more using charcoal — their preferred method of grilling. In fact, 69% own a charcoal grill, and many say they consider it to be more fun and relaxing to use, makes the food taste and smell better and requires more skills than gas grilling, according to the 5th Annual Weber Hispanic GrillWatch(TM) Survey.

Research shows that most Hispanic grillmasters say they are self-taught or learned the secrets of cooking food perfectly over an open flame from friends or relatives. More than a few think they’re the best grillers in town. Now they have a chance to prove it.

The second annual “Únete a la Onda Latina … ¡a Weber!” grilling contest is calling for consumers to show the country how hot they are at grilling with chances to win prizes, including Weber(R) grills and grilling accessories. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced on Monday, October 13, 2008 and will receive air travel to anywhere in Latin America. Participants and voters will be eligible to win prizes throughout the contest. To participate in the contest and for more information, visit

Here’s one recipe perfect for the grill that you may want to try, courtesy of Osiris Cordova, grand prize winner from last year’s grilling contest.

“Pollo a la Chapina”

3 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons plain yogurt
1 cup lime juice
1 cup white onion (minced)
1 teaspoon saffron or paprika
2 1/2 lbs chicken thighs & legs (with skin)

Combine all ingredients in a plastic bag and mix well. Add chicken to the mixture, but do not add salt, then marinate in refrigerator for 12 hours (or at least 4 hours).
Preheat grill.
Arrange chicken in the middle of the grill, skin side up, and add salt. Grill over medium indirect heat with lid down for 35 to 45 minutes and 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not flip or rotate chicken, keep covered and grill until done.
Serve immediately.
