#TransitionsLens To Host Twitter Party & Ask The Question: How Are Your Eyes?

Last April… I had to face an important challenge in my fight against diabetes, and that was to learn about how I can keep my eyes healthy. My friend Vivian from Transitions Lens really helped me connect with the right Doctor and get my first set of prescription eyeglasses.

One of the first things your Doctor recommends once you get a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis is that you have your eyes checked (along with a foot exam and a visit to a Endocrinologist) and for good reason. Diabetes can cause blindness and Diabetic retinopathy,  a common diabetic eye disease is the leading cause of blindness in American adults. It is caused by changes in the blood vessels of the retina. So since my diagnosis, I have been getting regular checkups.

Now I am urging you to do the same. That said, when I was invited to co-host the Transitions Twitter Party, I jumped at the opportunity. This will be a fun way to learn more about one of the most precious gifts you have been given… and how you can protect it.

I hope to see a lot of you out there on Wednesday night! Here is the message from our friends at Transitions

The fall brings on many delicious opportunities to enjoy some of our favorite foods. But many of those favorites are also loaded in sugar and calories. Fast approaching is November which is Diabetes Awareness Month. Diabetes is a silent enemy and over 90 percent of severe vision loss and blindness are caused by a serious vision condition called diabetic retinopathy. This can be identified and addressed early on based on the changes that occur in the eye that are visible during a comprehensive eye exam from an eye doctor.

Join Transitions Optical and Latina Mom Bloggers on October 22nd for an important chat, “How are your EYES?” Annual Vision Screening Twitter Party. With the year-end fast approaching, it is time to have your eyes examined if you haven’t already done so.

Through its various web platforms and programs, Transitions Optical is helping to educate and motivate consumers nationwide, particularly in ethnics groups such as Hispanics, African American and Asian American, to visit an eye doctor regularly for comprehensive eye exams, helping with the early detection of vision conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy.
