The Poetry of Rebel Poet: I Come From
I come from.
I come from an island of mountains and slums, en el Caribe! a paradise in the sun where violence is pastime number one you can fall in love there and even get mugged there! You will never starve there, my people got big hearts; y las mujeres como las montañas; will leave you breathless right from the start,
It’s the home of the tropical breeze, where the US uses us as they please! To smuggle; guns, cocain and weed. You know the place! They call it Borinquen or Puerto Rico ohhhhhhh! That’s my people!
Puerto Rico which means; rich port! And trust me they get it in like Bridgeport! But I don’t call my self a Puerto Rican, I know that I’m Boriqua because my home is Boriken! The name which my ancestors gave, until the Europeans came and turned them all into slaves! Getting rich off the gold, they even changed our name just to state the Queens claim, Europe is not from where we came! So the title that they gave, I choose to disclaim, for my people who fought Spain with every drop of blood in there vein. They where Indian Taino’s who used bows and arrows, now our youth sniff coke with no hope for tomorrow! Don’t you know? Where I’m from there is a political drug game And the politician yes they run game!
On the masses making promises but don’t shit change! We get federal aid but it’s just chump change, compared to what they making off the drug trade!
Plus all the mega stores, causing every small business owner to be poor! We can fight in there war but what are we fighting for if we can’t even vote! Where I’m from they pray to Jesus and even the Pope, relying on religion to give them a vision! But what we have the most in our island is division. Divided we stand so divided we fall But we all stand tall when our island name they call! Regardless of where we may be we represent our flag on the daily so Trust me when I tell you this is no just a story, this is my present, my past and my glory!
