On the topic of things that are necessary in our lives, I would like to take a pause in this post to congratulate the organizers, attendees and sponsors that collectively made this weekends Afro Latino Fest in NYC a success. There is a chorus of people, all singing praises for what promises to become an institution leading the conversation for the diaspora. Please visit their site, follow the #afrolatinofest hashtags and connect with the thousands of people who attended and are active participants in this community.

And now the moment you have all been waiting for… what is next?

First off this post is brought to you by Sofrito For Your Soul…

Here is what is happening in NYC this week.

First off…

Convocamos a Call to Action a Todo Boricua por Borinken:

Action to let both U.S. and Puerto Rico government and Wall Street vultures know that we are going to give them a fight inside and outside of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico’s government fiscal team will be meeting with Wall Street bankers debt holders in NYC this coming Monday. One of the representatives for the P.R. government is none other than IMF’s own Anne Kruger (She was not elected by the people to represent P.R.,what she is doing representing P.R. is a mystery) they will be meeting at CITIGROUP Tower in NYC.

This is happening at 3pm… at Citigroup Tower (399 Park Ave)

Immediately following this protest, there will be a meeting at 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East 310 W 43rd St, New York, New York 10036 to discuss next steps.

Casita Maria is proud to present Bronx-based artist RONNY QUEVEDO’s solo exhibition HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE. On view are recent works that explore the psychological and emotional dimensions of time, space and place. His mixed-media drawings and sculptures of public and private sites create a visual language for “lived” experience of geography and architecture, incorporating unexpected, eclectic materials including contact paper and drywall, to rare materials such as gold leaf. Quevedo’s work explores the aesthetics of remembering as well as the physicality and spatial boundaries of memory. A place where time is measured not in months, days or years but in shape, form, construction, reaction, experience, beliefs and emotions.
Come and meet #ronnyquevedo at #casitamaria and enjoy his inspirational work!
