The Capicu Poetry & Cultural Showcase is a grassroots cultural house of poetry and performing arts founded by nightlife event guru Juan "Papo Swiggity" Santiago , & George "Urban Jibaro" Torres- creator of the online magazine www.SofritoForYourSoul.com. WHAT? Open Mic Poetry Series with Visual Art Showcase Hosted by OL SoUL, Hip Hop Artist & Spoken Word Poet Curated by Papo Swiggity, The Urban Legend. WHERE? Orlandomedia7 So yesterday...I was just browsing my feed on my Facebook page, and the folks at Taller Puertorriqueño posted a video of this guy named Marlon Fernandez's video called "A Quien". It turns out that Marlon was the winner of 2006's Objetivo Fama on Univision. For those that do not know...Objetivo Fama is Latin America's answer to "American Idol. So I wanted to share the video that Taller posted mainly because I liked and now I am wondering what happenned to all the Salseros that thrived in the vein of "romantic Salsa? Taller I have been reading a lot about social media, and the dynamics of social networking and I have been putting some really good practices in place. One of the things that I have been doing in my quest to uncover cultural treasure on the web is look deeper into some of the people I already have in my growing network on places like MySpace and Facebook. So I was poking around the new interface on Facebook, which I like much better than the old one, and I ran into some video feeds posted by Taller Puertorriqueño. I really enjoyed the clip of Marlon Fernandez singing Salsa but I decided to find out what Taller was all about. Well what I realized was that they are based out of Philadelphia, their website is amazing and here is what their site says about them.

I know that some of you have been wondering what happenned to Radio Capicu, the first live Latino talk show on the web...so I will let you know that we are about to kick off an exciting new season of broadcasts with a much wider range of content than we have in the past. The first major announcement is something we hinted at before closing out our last broadcast, La Chica Que Pica, our sometimes guest host will be joining the show as a regular co-host as soon as she gets back from her trip to London. Urban Jibaro enlists in a "Salsa Boot Camp"

Ok Mi Gente...so here is an update to my post entitled "I am trading my bowl of tortilla chips and salsa dip for dipping chicks to the beat of Salsa..." I am happy to announce that I found the school of choice and the best thing about this is that it is in my old stomping grounds...the neighborhood I claim, Cypress Hills. I did not only pick this school because they are very good at what they do...but because of their deep connection with the community that surrounds them...many of our Sofrito and Capicu supporters emailed me almost immediately after I posted the blog to pitch this school to me...I did not see the same passion from people reccommending other schools. I will be sharing more about my Salsa Bootcamp experience with Melody, founder of Dance Atlantic...she is so down to earth and I thank her sincerley for allowing us to document this experience.
