Road Trippin’ in Texas

2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid

2014 Toyota Camry Hybrid

And so it begins…

A few weeks back I made an announcement that I have decided to leave my full time position in sales leadership at a major wireless company to work full time on my own and do lots of traveling. The universe conspired in my favor… because only two days after I said that I received an invitation to attend the National Association of Hispanic Journalists Convention in San Antonio Texas. This would be no ordinary trip… it would be my very first road trip with other bloggers, reporters and influencers.

I was drawn to this trip because as someone who works in the media and with a variety of brands, I wanted to be able to speak to some of the people who do the work… day by day building brands. Road Trippin’ with Best Western did not disappoint my curiosity.

Talking to Charles Helms, Owner/Operator of Best Western Premier in Denton, Texas

The Three Day #ViajaConBW Road Trip, hosted by West Western and powered by Toyota…  took us from Dallas all the way to San Antonio in a beautiful red Toyota Camry Hybrid with lot’s of sightseeing, culinary and cultural exploration. We also attended the conference and got a special inside look at the manufacturing plant that the Tundra and Tacoma Pickup Trucks are built. Last but certainly not least we stayed at three very distinct Best Western properties and talked to some of the independent owner / operators about their love for the brand and the hospitality business.

Once in Dallas, we checked into the Best Western Premier in Denton, Texas and met my fellow road trippers XoXoLizza, Leaura Luciano, MeliVan (La Semana), VeeTravels and Greta (El Lider USA).

Truth be told, I have not stayed in a Best Western for a few years and I will say that this property totally redefined what I thought a Best Western might look like. This place was amazing (and I will say my favorite out of the three we toured).

Now for someone that will be spending a lot more time on the road, it helped to know more about Best Western’s brand promise and how they deliver it. Having the opportunity to chat with Charles Helms really gave me insight as to how each property gets a unique opportunity to make each property unique yet still deliver on the basic needs of all travelers (business and leisure). I was most impressed on how he partners with other hotel chains on the same strip as him to go get new business and how that partnership has been branded by locals as Hospitality Hill. My main needs as far as a hotel is concerned are of course cleanliness and customer service. The experience I had here exceeded all expectations.

What was the difference at Best Western?   THE PERKS!!!!

These were not just perks I got as a blogger touring the hotels… these are real perks extended to all guests.

The amenities that made the difference for me here are the gym, breakfast (major savings & convenience) and the free Wi-Fi. The space was very comfortable to work in as I had to do some work once I was in the room for the night and access to the business center to print, sign and fax some contracts to my client saved me a trip to FedEx Kinkos. When I did the math, using these free ammenities saved me at least $50 and a hell of a lot of time.

They also have by all accounts an amazing rewards program that keeps their customers loyal but be aware that booking at discount reservation websites like Orbitz and Priceline will cost you valuable loyalty points.

I just added an item to my to do list and that is checking to see if there is a Best Western Premier at any of my future business trips.

I do want to thank our Road Trip hosts Alison Georgoulis (Best Western) and Tassi Castillo (Alison+Partners) for just being amazing tour guides and just lots of fun… your energy made this a trip to remember, we have forever bonded.

This was really Andrew’s (@VeeTravels) Breakfast… the Texas waffle was such a great touch.
