Nuyorican Poets Cafe Founder To Be Honored By Capicu Poetry.

ALGARIN-MONGO2 Miguel Algarin took the magic of what his friends created in his apartment and built a movement… the monument we know as the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. This October, during Latino Heritage Month… the team that brought you amazing shows with icons like Piri Thomas, Lemon Anderson and Felipe Luciano… will once again make history in Brooklyn celebrating the life of Miguel Algarin and his written legacy.

The musical backdrop for this tribute will be provided by the very talented Fernandito Ferrer who will share his new style of Puerto Rican music and poetry live with the Capicu family.

If you have been to a Capicu event before, expect us to raise the bar once again as to what cultural entertainment should look like… If you have never been… you need to see for yourself what everyone else has been talking about.

Now a word from our resident Chupacabra…. PaPoSwiggity

“This is the Nuyorican Movement coming full circle! Except that, in our time, the poets that speak Spanish and Spanglish are from everywhere in Latin America! Our African-American brothers and sisters have always been a part of the Nuyorican Movement too, as Ashante told me the other day the only thing that seperates us is the so-called ‘Masters’ language. ! We move in solidarity!”
