No Resolutions: Here Are My Three Words For 2015

About 6 or 7 years ago… I stopped participating in the New Year ritual of making a list of “resolutions”. I believe in self-improvement and I came across a blog post by one of my personal favorite influencers, Chris Brogan. It was a simple post with little or no explanation as to why he was choosing 3 words instead of resolutions… but I instantly got it, and so it began.

I want you to understand the concept of this exercise, so here is how Chris explains it in his words (published in 2014)

How to Choose Your Three Words

Lots of people pick words that remind them to take a certain action, or to be a certain way. Over the years, I’ve used both methods. Sometimes, my words are a verb. Other times, they’re a bit more complex. The idea is to use the words as triggers for actions you intend to take, and maybe other actions you seek to avoid.

So 2014 was a year of being uncomfortable with being comfortable. I suffered some health setbacks due to lack of focus. I made a decision to pursue a career as a social influencer / strategist and build on my success with Sofrito Media Group after a 10 year career with T-Mobile came to an end. I simply decided that I needed to build my own dream job since I could not seem to find what I was looking for anywhere else.

In a nutshell, I have endured lots of change.  it was also a time of great success, I was able to work with great brands like Hispanicize, Latina Mom Bloggers, Being Latino, Toyota, Best Western, AARP, Casa Latina, TransitionsMusic Choice, Omar Lopez Photography Studio & Cricket Wireless (just to name a few).

I also got to experience some cool things like watching my creative partner,Juan “PapoSwiggity” Santiago get a Positive Impact Award in Miami,  having a Capicu Culture branded float at the Puerto Rican Parade, helping launch a School of Poetic Arts, going on a Texas road trip, speaking at Fordham University (several times), going on my first cruise ship, helping a Latina owned business (Novel Research of NY) launch a health initiative in the South Bronx and going on a blogger trip with my mom to explore San Augustine.

In addition I was able to do incredible social media work with Hollywood studios for films like Annabelle, Exodus: Gods & Kings and Top Five via Arenas Entertainment , a branding campaign to restore the National Puerto Rican Day Parade to it’s core purpose of celebrating our culture as well as the social media coverage and event management for the National Hispana Leadership Institute.

Most importantly… in each one of these projects I was able to curate the talent needed to make each of them successful… too many people to name but without them I could never have done any of it. I treasure those relationships more than anything. Thanks #TeamCapicu!

For me to make this year my personal best the words that will guide my actions are as follows;

Now I picked these words because I saw them on a google search… I reposted. I did also research to find out where the graphic originated from… and that lead me to Steve Ferrante’s Pinnacle Performance Champion Website.

Here is my breakdown…

I will make decisions about what I want to achieve and I will start planning for it… even if in the moment it looks like there is zero chance of it happening. I truly believe that the universe will conspire in my favor and it will happen. It was very apparent that everything I wanted to do in 4th quarter happened because I decided it would. So in the interest of putting it out in the universe, some of the things I have decided to do is; be the healthiest me I can be by making myself the first appointment of each day, work with bigger clients on longer term campaigns, open office space in Brooklyn, getting my passport, go on a 7 day cruise, travel more often, build a better blogradio show/podcast, expand on our community work nationally via Capicu Culture / La SoPa and do voice overs.

I will commit to planning and executing things that will position me in a way that will facilitate opportunity. I am committed to connecting with people I never thought I could and dreaming dreams that seem impossible. I am committed to seeing what can be accomplished grow way beyond the things I already know I will accomplish in 2015.

In the words of my creative partner Juan “PapoSwiggity” Santiago… I will look for success thru succession, learn from my mentors, applying their wisdom to my drive and building shit that really matters. I will appreciate success by helping others succeed pushing to be less competitive and more collaborative when it comes to big picture win-win scenarios that benefit my community.

So there you have it… these are the three words that will drive me to have the biggest year of my life and I promise to bring you along for the ride. Follow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and get updates on what is happening with me.
