McDonald’s® kicked-off the National Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend festivities on Thursday, June 7, at the 22nd Annual “Tropical Nights at the Seaport,” the popular multi-cultural music concert series taking place at the South Street Seaport.  Over 12,000 people attended the event, showcasing live performances by José Alberto “El Canario,” Chris Alfirez, and La Comisión; DJ spins; and a dance contest.

Seven couples representing the tri-state area competed for a $500 cash prize at the “Bailando con Sabor” dance contest. “Dancing helps Latinos to stay fit, so we are proud to present these talented contestants as they exercise Latino-style – salsa dancing!,” said Jessica Meléndez, McDonald’s Regional Marketing Manager for the NY Metro Region.

Meléndez presented the check to the dance contest winning couple onstage, as well as an honorary plaque to salsa luminary Roberto Roena, who was inducted onto the McDonald’s Latin Music Memorabilia Tour, part of the McDonald’s FiestaTour.   The event also featured free Mango Pineapple Real Fruit Smoothie samplings at the McDonald’s Sampling Truck.
