Latina Bloggers Raise The Bar For Latino Literacy!

Latina bloggers Viviana Hurtado, Ph.D (@VivianaHurtado) and Monica Olivera (@LatinMami) have launched Latinas for Latino Literature (L4LL),  a not-for-profit network run by advocates to increase Latino literacy, access to Hispanic literature, and the publication of Latino authors and illustrators by mainstream publishers.

This is the first time a Latino Children’s Summer Reading Program engages Latino kids and their parents, who will reinforce with their involvement, their children’s literacy goals and vocabulary development. The Latino Children’s Summer Reading Program recognizes that today’s students, especially Hispanics, are natives to technology.

To bridge the literacy gap, the Latino Children’s Summer Reading Program promotes basic literacy skills with free bilingual downloads and reading lists designed specifically for Latino families, as well as with interactive web-based programs, apps, and social media.
