It’s About More Than Just Cupcakes…

IMG-20110723-00051 But do not get it twisted… the cupcakes are slamming too, but this grand opening is a win for our community.

This past Saturday, Brooklyn Cupcake, the newest addition to Williamsburg's Business Community had their Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Friends, family and lots of facebook fans showed up to welcome Carmen Rodriguez and her sisters to the neighbohood. Also in attendance were Brooklyn Cupcake supporters Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.

Despite the 100+ degree heat…They treated the crowd to a "Flash Mob" that did a dance routine to Beyonce's Sweet Dreams. (I got the video!). In the shop, artwork displayed by children participating in a XMental University project called paint straight that teaches the kids the difference between art and vandalism.

My favorite moment (besides all the free cupcake samples and free cold bottled water) was when Nydia Velazquez said… "It is a great day for Brooklyn… It is a great day for women!" and making a point that this venture is a (Latina) women owned business and that they overcame overwhelming odds in this economy to make this day possible. Getting to know them as I have over the past few months, I have seen first hand how the passion drives their will to succeed and this is only the beginning.

Aside from the yumminess that is a Brooklyn Cupcake is that these young ladies that will create a memorable experience and set the stage for many memories as people look to them to help celebrate life one bite at a time.

Do you have a Brooklyn Cupcake story you want to share? Leave it in the comments section….
