Is Calling ICE A Thing Now?

by Jessy Genao

Dímelo mi gente! I hope you’re all doing well!

So, I’ve been watching the news for a while now and have noticed that ICE is the new, como se dice “thing” now? On the news, there’s been a rise with deportation rates. In 2017, there has been a rise within border security. There has been many being deported, many people getting separated from their families, and overall, it’s been such a devastating thing to witness. Recently, a friend of mine, got stopped by the cops. Turns out he didn’t have his license and they proceeded to call I.C.E.

I feel as though everyone deserves a chance here. America, being a country of opportunity should at least give everyone a chance to better themselves. I feel as though America has very strict immigration laws, which is understandable considering all that’s happened recently, but I feel as though everyone still deserves a chance to better themselves if you’re undocumented especially if you’re young.

I have hope though, hope that things changes. Hope that I.C.E. isn’t such a normal thing. I hope that immigrants that are trying to pursue an education don’t have to live in constant fear of being deported. I just hope things change for the better.

Everyone deserves a second chance. Everyone deserves to move forward with their lives.

Con amor,
Jessica (Jessy)
