In This Together: Investing In Our Children’s Success.

I need to preface this post with this quote…

“To live the lives we truly want and deserve, and not just the lives we settle for, we need a Third Metric,” she says, “a third measure of success that goes beyond the two metrics of money and power, and consists of four pillars: well-being, wisdom, wonder, and giving.” – Arianna Huffington

I was thinking about this in relation to my children, the youngest two, Thomas & Angelica (my twins) who this week started  in their junior year of college. I thought about the sacrifice that not just my wife and I, but the rest of the family had to make in making sure they were ready and able to get there. I thought about how my wife’s grandmother made sure that we had a place to live until the kids left for college. I thought about how my in laws took care of the kids after school, made sure they did their home work and had a home cooked meal every day. I think about the encouragement of the kids aunts, uncles cousins and close family friends and years of wisdom they would share with the kids each time they saw them. I think about the the kids friends who were also great kids with loving families that refrained from getting in trouble like the kids their age can sometimes get into. Last but not least I thought about each of the teachers and guidance counselors that made time for them, to answer questions and make sure they had options in their quest to be successful.

Last but not least, I though about how my wife encouraged the kids to always be their very best in every way, from how they looked and behaved every day to always encouraging to explore their talents in a way that they felt suited them best. In short, our family, friends and our local educators all invested in my children… and their promise of success.

I owe each person who invested in my children an eternal debt, they are all shareholders in my kid’s success.

This is my very public THANK YOU!

So, that said… My family knows what it means when we say that we are all #InThisTogether

We also know about paying it forward, which is why I am very excited to team up Strayer University and such an amazing group of bloggers / influencers for this year’s Festival. Yes it is an incredibly fun concert with some amazing talent but more importantly, it is a platform for us to really have a conversation about what it takes to invest in success. I am very excited to be part of this conversation so I can share my experiences as well as some of the great programs that Strayer has in place for parents like you. No matter how your family circle is configured Strayer University has a team of personal success coaches to provide career counsel, learning support, and“cheerleading” every step of the way in their academic journey. All you have to do is say hi to us in San Antonio (or on social media) to get the conversation going, an important first step in the process.

The team over at Strayer University are the right folks to lead this conversation.

Strayer University, the Official Higher Education Sponsor of the 3rd annual Festival PEOPLE en Español, is honored to share its message of opportunity and achievement through education with the Latino community at Festival PEOPLE en Español. The two-day event has become one of the year’s most-anticipated celebrations of Hispanic culture featuring today’s hottest celebrities, expert panels and family-fun activities over Labor Day weekend.  Strayer University will provide an inspiring forum for Latinos on how to develop their leadership potential and empower them to become leaders at work on Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31 at the weekend experience at San Antonio’s Henry B.
