Hurricane Irma: Responding To Needs In The Caribbean

Breaking: We will be adding Hurricane Irma updates via our ElVejigante.com website throughout the day.

EL VEJIGANTE

El Vejigante is a formal (bilingual) response to the call for a collective space to share information around the colonial, fiscal, educational, environmental and health crisis in Puerto Rico.

We are temporarily suspending regular coverage to address emergency needs for all Caribbean islands.

As far as Puerto Rico is concerned, both Sofrito Media group & Capicu Culture are supporting our friends at Vive Borikén in their efforts to address relief efforts on the island.

They have started a fundraiser

Vive Borikén has been our link to environmental and resistance news on the island for over 2 years and is a trusted partner. They have been active daily on the island every day during the larger storm that has been battering the island.

Here is a little more about them.

Vive Borikén’s grassroots network of Puerto Ricans living abroad in the diaspora, is organizing relief efforts to support people in Puerto Rico who may find themselves in emergency situations in the wake of Hurricane Irma.

******

Vive Borikén is a grassroots social justice movement based in Puerto Rico established in 2015. Our mission is to unite Puerto Ricans world-wide for the cultural, environmental, and economic well-being of our MotherLand: Borikén/Puerto Rico. We function as an umbrella organization in Puerto Rico and as a bridge to the diaspora of Puerto Ricans living abroad.

For more info, follow us on Facebook www.facebook.com/viveboriken and visit our website www.viveboriken.org.

THERE ARE MORE COUNTRIES IN IRMA’S PATH…

Dominican Republic & Haiti are next.

Organizers with relief projects in place, please email me all info to HurricaneIrma@SofritoMediaGroup.com so that we can share throughout our network.
