About Orphans International Worldwide (OIWW)

Orphans International Worldwide (OIWW) was founded by former investment banker Jim Luce in 1999 as a response to the global crisis facing orphaned children.  OIWW has established a network of locally incorporated homes to house and educate children orphaned and abandoned after the Tsunami in Sri Lanka and Indonesia, and the 2004 hurricane in Haiti.
OIWW provides aid to the world's most disadvantaged children with the donated services of many volunteers -it is associated with the United Nations Department of Public Information and is headquartered in New York City. OI America is a 501(c)(3) not for profit corporation. (

About Orphans International Dominican Republic

Orphans International Dominican Republic is the newest project in formation and needs our help.
Casa Ana, operating under the umbrella of OIDR was designed to address the needs of children ages 5-16 who live in the poverty stricken city of Azua, DR, without access to any resources for their advancement. The main focus is to get children off the streets and into a safe environment. Casa Ana  will provide them with educational tools as well as counseling services, thereby instilling hope and helping them create a  vision for the future so that they can become productive citizens and, in turn, give back to their communities.

English classes, computer classes & homework help are the focal point of the curriculum. Family counseling is an important aspect of the program as it will address certain prevalent issues which affect the children's emotional health and well being. The founder and program director of Casa Ana recently returned to school to earn an additional degree in the clinical counseling field specifically to carry out this mission. Physical health and proper nutrition will also be addressed and monitored. Initially, orphans will have priority, but Casa Ana plans to expand to accommodate as many children as possible from the town, with the hope that this project can be used as a model for other similar centers throughout the entire Dominican Republic.
About Capicu Poetry & Cultural Showcase
It's a partnership between the event coordinator PaPo Swiggity and (Urban Jibaro), also supported by some of NYC's most powerful artists & musicians, including some of the elders from Nuyorican Poets Cafe. We welcome all styles and poets, though it is themed around our Nuyorican origins. We are a grassroots cultural house of poetry and performing arts that has headed a movement of bilingual and urban spoken word poetry, fused with visual artistry, the principles of community organization and empowerment through education.
