Capicu Culture – ArtCultureNYC Build With Local Art Students
Capicu Culture – ArtCultureNYC Delegates Join The Cooper Union School of Art As They Announce their 2015 Summer Art Intensive.
During this event we will have the opportunity to introduce high school students to local artists active in the NYC arts scene and create opportunity for collaboration and mentorship, preparing students to apply to undergraduate top art schools through highly structured projects. We are extremely excited to be given the opportunity to interact with the next generation of artists.
The Cooper Union School of Art announces the Summer Art Intensive program (cooper.edu/academics/outreach-and-pre-college/summer-art-intensive) running from July 6th to July 30th. This four weeks summer pre-college art program prepares students to apply to the top undergraduate art schools. An open Q&A will be held on February 10th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., during the Outreach Pre-College Program Winter student exhibition, at the Foundation Building, 2nd floor, located at 7 East 7th St. in the heart of New York City.
Participants in the upcoming Summer Art Intensive select a studio concentration, including animation, photography and graphic design, supported with additional intensive drawing instruction and the study of contemporary art issues. The curriculum is designed for portfolio preparation and is taught by a specialized faculty of working artists. The program includes visits to major museums and gallery districts, engaging students with the vast cultural resources of New York City. Guest artists in residence will offer a close-up view of a professional practice in action. The Cooper Union Summer Art Intensive culminates with a student exhibition, a publication of art and writings, and a public animation screening with a reception in Cooper’s Great Hall.
“The program is ideal for curious and insatiable visual thinkers, ready to exhaust all opportunities in the classroom. We offer a pre-college education and experience that provides genuine support, high expectation, and outstanding results for students who want to be a part of Cooper Union excellence.” Said Stephanie Hightower, Director of the Summer Art Intensive.
The Cooper Union also offers four artist residencies within the Summer Art Intensive program. The fellowships are given to outstanding visual artists who will spend the of month of July on-campus developing a new project in the painting and drawing studios. The residency provides spacious, sky-lit professional spaces, and an exhibition honoring the residents’ work. This year’s residents will be announced during the February 10th event.
Applications for the 2015 Summer Art Intensive program will be available online on February 10th.
