CANCION PODEROSA
By: Luz Burgos
Blurb:
I wrote this poem to connect the fact
that women are and were apart of the struggle towards social justice
in a world that is constantly working towards the amaricanizing of people
of color.
As I recall, Como Yo Lo Recuerdo
Walking alongside my SISTERS
Chained
Chained by the oppressor!
Who tried to keep US! Keep us away from…
NUESTRA CULTURA, NUESTRA CANCION
Our Culture, Our Song
CAMINO CON MI CORANZON,
Mi Corazon en mi ALMA
Con el ORGULLO de MI descendencia
RECUERDA!
Remember the Nights,
The MANY nights
When RINGS of rust formed around, AROUND!
Our ANKLES and WRIST
Orange BLOOD, Brown BLOOD
Cutting through our skins
Our skin the color of the earth
Walking in a place, in a place
We have grown to call home
NUNCA MATARON NUESTRA CANCION
They never killed our song
Desde la Isla del el Canto
Toco, Toco, Toco, Toco
Vejigante come coco
Pan y Cebolla
Vejigante a la bolla
Esa Vieja es Bruja
Bruja es
Y tiene los Ojos
Color Cagfe
Y hasta nuestra Africa
To our motherland Africa
Funga Alafia, ache, ache,
Funga Alafia, ache, ache.
Nuesta Canciones VIVEN, Our Songs Live
Walking IN FRONT and IN BACK of our Sisters
We are our strength
Somos nuestro poder
The Unity
La Union
Of our people, Nuestra Gente
Is our Survival
Somos Mujes, Mujeres de Poder
We are Women,
Women of Power
Mujeres de Orgullo,
Women of Pride
